Multimedia production brings 'Macbeth back to life'

A new show set to open in New York has made use of the latest multimedia production techniques to bring Macbeth back to life for a 21st century audience, it has emerged.

The retelling of William Shakespeare's famous tale that sees royal rivalries turn into intreague and violence is to be recreated via various media technologies in an open air theatre in Brooklyn, the New York Times reports.

Polish director Grzegorz Jarzyna is the man behind the newest version of the classic tale and he insists that it will make for visceral viewing for the audience, thanks largely to the use of multimedia production.

He explains that using video and computerised animation he and his team have been able to being to life on screen aspects of the Macbeth story that until recently could only really be narrated and explained.

"Nowadays it's technically possible in the theatre to show it, to make it closer, this feeling of the war, what it means," he said.

Macbeth is among the best known and most commonly performed plays written by Shakespeare, who is widely regarded as the best ever writer in the English language.
